A Lot Has Changed in 30 Years. Living Mission: New and Improved Mission Education Resource

  • Living Mission, the new mission education resource, engages adults of all ages and especially persons ages 40, 30, 20, and younger. NMI keeps mission lights on for all ages.

  • The last time NMI changed mission education this extensively was 1980. That was 30 years ago! We processed this change slowly, listening/responding to many focus groups.

  • Wow—1980? A lot has changed in 30 years:
    • Audience mindset: more networked, less isolated from others
    • Learning styles: preferences for more dialogue, interaction, hands-on involvement
    • Educational methods: expectations for richer media (audio and video and Web)
    • Mission Moments: fewer Sunday opportunities to engage people in missions
    • Global issues: our world, news, and views have expanded themes and topics
    • Ethnic patterns: churches are becoming more culturally rich and responsive
    • Books plus: mission education also includes videos, audios, CAUSES, hands-on opportunities, and Web sites

  • NMI continues to increase people’s mission passion in exciting ways. Listen to the comments of some NMI leaders about Living Mission:
    • We are more aware of the different ways people learn and develop.
    • What used to be merely lecture is now more interactive.
    • People remember better when they both hear and do something.

Living Mission is a work in progress. We are constantly improving this resource. We rely on suggestions of leaders who use it to help us improve it. We welcome your responses! livingmission@nazarene.org or nmi@nazarene.org.
